Gallery: An ode to Venice

So unless you’ve been living under a rock this past week you’ll have caught the A List wedding of George Clooney to Amal Alamuddin. In Venice no less. I have to say, even the cheesy shots of the Clooneys sailing off in a boat called Amore (groan) headed for their honeycloon (extra groan) made me all sorts of sentimental for my own trip to Venice this time last year. After all, movie stars and super-chic international human rights lawyers are no match for Venice in all its glory.

Sirmione: Pasta, castles, wine and a lake you might have heard of

As a European getaway, Lake Garda has quite the reputation. The name alone rolls off the tongue already wrapped in luxurious notions of glamour and, along with the French Riviera, I’ve always had grand ideas about the place. Mostly as a beautiful playground for the rich and famous. A place where you can eat your weight in carbs, oh glorious carbs, and not get fat and wash it all down with delectable local wine at any hour of the day. Reputations can be misleading so the million dollar question is – does Lake Garda live up to expectations?
