This week Aer Lingus launched their new direct flights to Toronto from Dublin so if you’re thinking of visiting this cool Canadian city here’s my guide to why you should visit Toronto this summer and what you should get up to while you’re there…
Arriving in downtown Toronto for the first time you’d be forgiven for thinking it’s a concrete jungle. Everywhere you look is a towering block of condos and, if you don’t get asked if you’d like to snap up a condo during your stay, be insulted. I jest. Toronto is celebrated for its cool cosmopolitan spirit for a reason and away from Condoland you’ll find quirky neighbourhoods, amazing restaurants and enough sight-seeing to turn you into a diehard Toronto fan in no time.
The most common question I get asked about living out of a suitcase is if it’s difficult to be a vegetarian on the road. The answer is no…if you go to the right places.
I just spent 4 days in sunny Toronto and ate at a variety of swanky restaurants, landmarks and take away food places. Not all of them were as imaginative on the veggie front but these four really impressed me and kept the hunger pangs at bay. I’m sure Toronto has many, many other vegetarian food outlets, maybe even better than these, but here are my personal favourites:
So dear reader, I’m currently in the wonderful city of Toronto (full post about my adventures on the way!) This morning I strolled through the streets of Chinatown and Kensington Market (favourite place in the city so far) and it was pretty hard not to notice that street art and graffiti is a big thing in this city. And I don’t mean someone scrawling “John” on a wall in black ink – I mean proper, attention-grabbing, brighten-up-the-seediest-alley street art. I’m sure I haven’t seen half the good stuff but anyway, here’s what caught my eye:
PS: if you like what you see, you can actually do a tour of the city’s street art with Tour Guys, a company who offer walking tours of the city with enthusiastic guides who know their stuff. They also do a beer tour which is – shock horror! – their most popular tour. Check ’em out if you’re in Toronto!
