Dublin hotel The Gibson just upped its art game by announcing urban street artist Fin Dac as its artist in residence. The artist, originally hailing from our very own Cork, will be creating a grand scale piece of art at the four star hotel in the next 5 weeks so art fans, curious bystanders and street artists can come along and watch the man at work.
The Gibson hotel itself is already pretty artsy, with photos by 60s It girl Pattie Boyd in the lobby and quirky ornaments like the pigs in my photos below already giving the hotel an artistic edge. The Docklands in Dublin is a place going through a bit of a gentrification or facelift – hopefully without losing its edge – so getting a street artist on board is the perfect fit IMO. Excitingly, Fin will also be doing a mural in the area too so that’s one to watch. This is the second year The Gibson has had the Artist In Residence program so hopefully more Irish hotels follow suit and get creative (hint, hint).
Fin Dac’s reign as Artist In Residence was launched by Irish Minister for the Arts Jimmy Deenihan and there was a pretty cool exhibition of Fin’s work on display which you can check out below. Can’t wait to see what he comes up with? Me neither. So keep an eye on www.thegibsonhotel.ie or follow Fin on Twitter to get the latest. Read my review of The Gibson here.
